The Weeknd is my favorite contemporary artist. It was a cool experience seeing his set live at Coachella earlier this year. The description of his artistry style is provocative in and of itself, “songs built around a fogged, crepuscular production, and feature slow tempos, rumbling bass, and forlorn echoes. The Weeknd sings in a falsetto register, and exhibits a pleading, anxious tone”.
I’m not a big fan of his latest “Can’t Feel My Face” song, as that feels too pop and mainstream oriented. “King of the Fall” is one of my higher ranked tracks. The darker and more carnal the undertones – the better.
