Just when I thought all the local riding locations consisted of lame fireroads, I decided to give one more trail a shot, and found a gem. I rode it mainly because it was so close to where I live. People call it the Hayward Plunge, named after the rather creepy looking indoor swimming pool at the base. The trail loops to the top of the Hayward hills, in the vicinity of where the California State University East Bay campus is. Because the surrounding area is all residential, you could initially pass it off as just a random hiking trail. I think that’s what makes it more low key.<\/p>\n

The entire loop system is basically all single track, and cuts through trees.\u00a0I rode it a few weeks ago, when the weather was crappy. Bad idea… far too muddy. Went again today, with the weather being better, and had some surprisingly good riding… lots of fun on the descent.<\/p>\n
